NEGRO SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS DATA CAPTURE PROJECT
What were the Negro Scholarships? Click here to identify ancestors who graduated from a Southern State Historically Black College and University (HBCU) who continued their studies by taking Master’s level course; post-graduate Specialty Courses and/or completed a Master’s level degree or higher using the NS Tuition Reimbursement Grants issued by the individual southern state. The currently identified participating states are Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Mississippi, Missouri, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, and West Virginia. The records are held at the appropriate State Archive in their State Capital City.

The symposium will highlight the results of the AWAAR 2026 Data Capture Research Project that seeks to teach descendant family historians genealogists how to identify the Negro Scholarship Recipients in their research group.
